Synapse: Taxonomies and Thesaurus Software: "Taxonomies, software and people for smarter information retrieval

In the world of taxonomies, thesauri and knowledge management, Synapse Corporation offers ready-made taxonomies, enterprise-class software solutions, domain expertise, and professional lexicography and indexing services. "

Real-Life Solutions

Synaptica is being used by companies to perform many different taxonomy and indexing tasks:

  • an insurance company is building a taxonomy to classify and index the corporation’s intranet; embedding terms in document meta-headers with Synaptica’s online indexing tools;

  • a publisher of reference books and databases is managing large authority files of personal and company names and building a master subject thesaurus that maps to legacy vocabularies;

  • an international trade directory is developing a seventeen-language thesaurus of products and services with cross-references to numerous classification schemes such as SIC and HSC;

  • a pharmaceutical company is managing and mapping together numerous thesauri and taxonomies used throughout the enterprise.

Web-based User Interface

The entire Synaptica application has a web-based user interface enabling access by location-independent lexicographers and indexers. A ‘portal’ system allows project teams to access subsets of the vocabularies with user functional privileges controlled by 12 permissions levels from read-only through super-administrator. A suite of online report wizards allows users to create alphabetical and hierarchical reports as well as CSV format exports.
