ART OF MILITARY DECEPTION
Bookseller
ART OF MILITARY DECEPTION.
Deceiving the enemy has been the intention of commanders throughout history, and examples of the successful employment of military deception abound. The Bible recounts several instances - Judas Maccabeus was an adept practitioner in the second century BC, and long before that was the well known Trojan Horse. In this book the author examines the means and stratagems of deception and studies examples illustrating them, ranging from the Monty's Double ploy to simulated retreat to draw the enemy on, to simulated concentrations of men and material to divert the enemy's attention from the real punch. Psyops, or psychological warfare, is also dealt with at some length and the Soviet "Maskirovka', or art of deception in all its ramifications, rates a chapter to itself.
