Battered Westerner Syndrome inflicted by myopic Muslim defenders
Last Thursday, in Sydney, the pack leader of a group of Lebanese Muslim gang-rapists was sentenced to 55 years in jail. I suppose I ought to say "Lebanese-Australian" Muslim gang-rapists, since the accused were Australian citizens. But, identity-wise, the rambunctious young lads considered themselves heavy on the Lebanese, light on the Australian. During their gang rapes, the lucky lady would be told she was about to be "f---ed Leb style" and that she deserved it because she was an "Australian pig."

Thus when the Supreme Being formed the universe, and created matter out of nothing, He impressed certain principles upon that matter, from which it can never depart, and without which it would cease to be. When He put the matter into motion, He established certain laws of motion, to which all movable bodies must conform. And, to descend from the greatest operations to the smallest, when a workman forms a clock, or other piece of mechanism, he establishes at his own pleasure
William Blackstone
from Commentaries on the Laws of England

The idea and practice of this political or civil liberty flourish in their highest vigour in these kingdoms, where it falls little short of perfection, and can only be lost or destroyed by the folly or demerits of it’s owner: the legislature, and of course the laws of England, being peculiarly adapted to the preservation of this inestimable blessing even in the meanest subject. Very different from the modern constitutions of other states, on the continent of Europe, and from the genius of the imperial law; which in general are calculated to vest an arbitrary and despotic power of controlling the actions of the subject in the prince, or in a few grandees. And this spirit of liberty is so deeply implanted in our constitution, and rooted even in our very soil, that a slave or a negro, the moment he lands in England, falls under the protection of the laws, and with regard to all natural rights becomes eo instanti a freeman.

Fifth and Park: the twin pillars of Manhattan prestige. These two avenues hold strong in the popular imagination as places of wealth, exclusivity and power, and while this may be true only to an extent, the elegantness of these two avenues can be seen today in the corporate playland of East Midtown. Fifth Avenue, like most of Midtown, was originally a residential area before evolving into a commercial and business neighbourhood in the late 19th century. The Trump Tower, the Rockefeller Centre, the Public Library, Tiffany's; countless New York institutions that have been glamourised in film and literature have their home in the mile long stretch of Fifth Avenue between 40th

Heroes are quite rare. They quietly evolve, making their mark upon the world. When they are gone, humanity as a whole is never the same. Such is the case with Viktor E. Frankl, professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, author of 32 books, including Man's Search For Meaning. This book is considered to be a classic. A survey done by the Library of Congress declared it to be among the top 10 influential books in America to date. Man's Search For Meaning is in its seventy-third edition, translated into at least 24 languages, and has sold over 9 million copies. Viktor Frankl takes the reader along with him back into a part of history many still find hard to comprehend...the Nazi death camps.

There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around
That the colt from old Regret had got away,
And had joined the wild bush horses - he was worth a thousand pound,
So all the cracks had gathered to the fray.
All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far
Had mustered at the homestead overnight,
For the bushmen love hard riding where the wild bush horses are,
And the stock-horse snuffs the battle with delight.

From The LitiGator Silly-ass lawsuits, part 2

A wrongful death suit has been filed by the family of Beatrice Booth, an 83-year-old woman who was hit by a door in a Target store in Amityville, New York as she was trying to exit the store by using the entrance door. As another customer was entering, the door opened and hit her in the head. She died a week later of complications of a head injury. The claim: the doors were not well marked and were confusing. And they opened too fast. (from Newsday)

This low tech but high fun game casts you as a debt ridden drug dealer - $2000 in your pocket, but $5500 in debt to a Loan Shark. The only way to get out of this debt trap is to make money by buying the available drugs and then moving to a new location and hoping the price moves up, or is driven up by market demands.
Sounds simple? It is! Except, of course, there's a certain cop called Officer Hardass on your tail, and he's rightly not too impressed with drug dealers. He'll come after you repeatedly with his deputies. You'll have to buy weapons from the store to shoot it out with Hardass and his deputies if you want to escape from them, or you could stay where you are and take your chances of not getting arrested. Alternatively, you could try just running away!

Let him catch you, and it's a night in the slammer for you!

LAGOS - NIGERIA
Dear Sir,
URGENT ATTENTION

BUSINESS TRANSFER OF US$25.5M ( TWENTY FIVE MILLION
FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY)
I am the New Auditor General to Audit Government
Account for this 2002 year budget, during my
auditing, I discovered that there was an over invoiced

amount of US$25.5 Million, in United States Dollars
Equivalent.
The above amount is floating after my auditing, since
it was an over - invoice amount, this means that the
money is from a contract executed by a Foreigner and
the real contract sum was paid remaining the floating
amount of US$25.5M.
Based on this development, I cannot claim this money
except with the help of a Foreign Partner, this is my
main reasons for contacting you. Now , I got your
contact from your Country's profile abroad and
I reserve your contact for this kind of transaction
with trust.
What you have to do is to send a reply mail telling me

that you are interested in this transaction and trust
worthy to handle this transaction for me, because I
will put your company's name as the Contractor that
executed the contract before and the money will be
wired transferred to your bank account, I will then
travel to meet you in your country for my own share
when this amount is wired to your account.
I would have travel out to open an account myself for
this transfer, but as a Civil Servant I am not allowed

to operate foreign bank account while in services ,
hence the need for an overseas partner.
I got your contact from your country's profil
abroad and I have put it that the money when
transferred to your bank account will be shared as
follows:
1. 30% to you for acting as the owner of
the money and for providing an accou! nt. 2. 10% set
aside for anyexpenses that may be
incurred in the course of the transaction (if any).
3. 60% to me as the owner / originator of the
transaction
All logistics have been put in place and all
modalities worked out for the smooth
conclusion of the transaction within a very short
period of time within (14) Fourteen working days after
the receipt of
information required like your company's name,
telephone and fax number, bank details for wire
transfer process.
As soon as I receive the above details I shall make the

application in your name and file in for claims to
the appropriate Ministries concerned in favour of your

company. It is pertinent to state here that this
transaction is entirely based on trust and I will
always put my trust in you.
Acknowledge the receipt of this mail using
my e-mail only please don't reply through any other
means for security reasons.
Yours faithfully,

A pet tortoise is relying on a set of television wheels to get around after being hit by a stray bullet.
A Brazilian vet came up with the idea after the reptile's back feet were paralysed in the accident.
But the tortoise is now looking for a new home because its owner lives on a steep hill in Rio.
The Guardian reports the wheels have been taped to the underside of the 20-year-old red-footed tortoise.
Vet Eliane Jessula says the system works well, but the pet needs to live on a flat stretch of land as there is no breaking mechanism.

Mattel loses 'Barbie Girl' lawsuit

Froday July 26, 2002
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A federal appeals court declined to reinstate a lawsuit from Mattel Inc. alleging the rock song Barbie Girl infringed on the toy-maker's doll patent.

Mattel sued MCA Records Inc. and others who helped produce and market the song, which includes the phrase, "I'm a blond bimbo girl in a fantasy world." The maker of Barbie claimed the song by the Danish band Aqua violated Mattel's copyright and that the song confused consumers into thinking Mattel backed the Top 40 composition.

MCA also sued Mattel for defamation while the lawsuit was pending. Mattel, the court wrote, said MCA's alleged trademark violation was a "crime."

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld a lower court that threw out the defamation suit and the trademark lawsuit.

"The parties are advised to chill," Judge Alex Kozinski wrote for the three-judge panel.
Here's something unusual:

Barbie's fair game, judge rules
By Duncan Campbell
Los Angeles
July 27 2002

The days when judges peered over their pince-nez to inquire who the Beatles were are long gone. And it should come as no surprise that the bench that has made what must rank as the coolest judicial conclusion to any trial should be based in San Francisco.

The case was a civil action brought by the toy company Mattel against the Danish band Aqua over the lyrics of the band's 1997 pop song Barbie Girl.

The company had claimed that the use of the Barbie name and her invitation in the song to her toy mate, Ken, to "go party" was a violation of its trademark.

But the US Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled yesterday that the song was protected under the band's right to freedom of expression upheld by the First Amendment.

The court ruled that no one would have imagined that Mattel had authorised the lyrics and, as Judge Alex Kozinski added: "Nor, upon hearing Janis Joplin croon, 'Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz', would we suspect that she and the car maker had entered into a joint venture."

But it was the judge's conclusion that must rate a footnote for super-coolness in judicial history: "The parties are advised to chill."

He went on to say: "To be sure, MCA used Barbie's name to sell copies of the song. However . . . the song also lampoons the Barbie image and comments humorously on the cultural values Aqua claims she represents."

Mattel has pursued the now defunct Aqua for the past four years.

The courts have already refused to help the toy company in an action against a Utah artist who arranged Barbie in sexual positions.
